About

The Association of Middle East Anthropology (AMEA) is a private, non-profit organization of scholars and individuals with a professional interest in Anthropology in the context of the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) and beyond, including transnational and diasporic MENA communities in Europe, North and South America, and elsewhere. AMEA is affiliated with the Middle East Studies Association of North America (MESA) and works with academic networks around the world. AMEA’s main objective is to advance the study of Anthropology in the Middle East and North Africa. In order to do this, we work to promote and stimulate ethnographic research in the region, facilitate communication among scholars through various meetings, and encourage cooperation among members of AMEA and individuals, organizations, and the public concerned with Anthropology in MENA. AMEA also works in cooperation with the Middle East Section of the American Anthropological Association (AAA).
